I have been doing a few Hill Climbs at the end of the season just for a bit of fun. I have not really done any training at all except for core stability and running so while results are nice, its nothing to lose sleep over.
My first one was the John Borcroft Memorial Hill Climb on Leith Hill in Surrey. The climb lasted about 4 minutes. I started off way too fast and blew towards the top but managed to hold on to third place.
I had to give my bike back to the team the following day but didn't have a replacement bike. I was building it the morning before Catford! It only had 1 chainring and no back brake.
The following Sunday I had the Catford and Bec Hill Climbs in Sussex. The atmosphere was great and the effort was only 2 minutes. At Catford I won the Junior event but again started a bit too fast and faded. At Bec CC I was humiliated and beaten by a talented 15 year old called Germaine Burton. I was slipping on the wet ground but that is a massive excuse. I couldn't sleep for several nights and had very low self esteem. Next time I race will be pretty determined! My Dad as there to video tape the massacre. I am number 13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r2Y4HiTLlM&feature=related
I didn't don the traditional hill climb look of a backwards cap, and went for weight savings.
I might do a road race next weekend at Ottershaw if my bike is ready. After that I have the National Hill Climb Champs and then an ODP camp the following week.
I just starting to get back into the swing of proper training after my semi-break. I have gone up to 70 kilos but am not too concerned as I think this will help over the winter (more emergency energy reserves).
I will be doing the Elite revolution track series over the winter so am doing some roller sessions to build up speed. I am excited at the thought of winter training!
